José Babot:
José is a geologist. Geology is not just his profession, but also his way of understanding the world, and therefore also "a way of being". A geologist has a different relationship with time, with a million years corresponding to the blink of an eyelash. Geologists know that our environment is inherently changing.
Geologists learn to decipher these changes in the rocks that “surface” and even in the contours of the landscapes. This feeling of impermanence and the importance of observation accompanied José — as important as the use of physical or digital tools — in the various missions entrusted to him in Geotechnics, Drilling, Mining Resources and finally, during the last 30 years, Industrial Pollution in Groundwater
In this latter mission, he managed an intense network that monitored drilling sites. This allowed him to work on both sampling and data management (via Equis from Earthsoft). He also worked with the toxicologists who define the reference values.
Today, as delegate of his municipality to the public manager of the potable water distribution network, José is setting up a database to monitor the quality of water extracted and water distributed. His work in this regard has the aim of drawing the attention of residents and decision-makers to the dangers that intensive agiculture practices bring through the use of chemical inputs.
